Undivine Prayer

Well, I wrote this at about 4 am in the morning after finishing my book, The Stand, by Stephen King.

In silence the saint stumbled
Past the remnants
Of a civil world.
A green gremlin grieves
As its smiling bumper
Is wrapped around
A telephone pole,
And child too.
The corpse of a dead whore,
Charming, cries for love,
So lost at sea.
A sea of infinite razors,
Where into the horizon,
The sun crawls towards
its red death.

Very very trippy, weird, dark and utterly compelling.

Loads of great lines; anything about razors, whores and corpses, and you've got me!

I've never read Stephen King, maybe time i did.

Look forward to more darkness

I know where you're coming from on this one. I've read the Stand too, but it didn't have quite this effect on me.

Really like your word play though. it's like your poem's on LSD or something. As Leo said, pretty trippy but utterly compelling. You've definitely got to read it few times to get the whole feeling, at first it feels just like words, but on the third roll through, it springs together, a portent of a dark tomorrow.

Wonderful!

well done...best wishes

Well I couldn't imagine this being written on a bright summers day - 4am sounds about right! Darker than a double espresso and a giant slab of Bournville...

I agree with the reviews that say it gets better with each time you read it. Great work.
