I just get very het up about those people who just READ and DO thing because you're MEANT to!

Look at the faces on the faceless in the street,
lovely jumper, jacket and jeans
Aren't we looking casual?
Aren't we someone special?
Paperbacks in pockets screaming "look at me.
I read", but not only that.
NOW we read
'Camus' we read 'Marx' we read politics,
we read philosophy, we read the words which say
Look at me.
Jacket and jeans
Aren't we looking casual?
Aren't we someone special?
I've got the CD, I don't need the CD, I've got the mp3
I don't need the mp3. I've got the memory
See I was there, dressed up to the tens, cause nines just don't cut it anymore.
And you know you were looking at me, oh that jacket, those jeans.
Aren't we looking casual, Aren't we someone special.
We are the 21st century.
Immersed in culture, immersed in current affairs, immersed in politics
We do not understand
But you don't need to know that, you can just smile while we
Quote from some intellectual we say we've 'met'
Which has become code for I saw once from across the room.
Nothing is real, in a world which isn't a world.
Nothing is fake, in a world which isn't a world.
Because you're looking so special, in that jacket and jeans.
Total
Original.

You nailed it...

There this alternate world in which your aforementioned students live.. the idea of 'paperbacks in pocket' as some sort of symbol of intellectual power and the ideas of quotes to say we've 'met' is great...

there is a part of me that gets wrankled by such individuals, yet there is another half of me that wishes i could leave the hum drum rat race, bills and stress behind and just sit outside cheap italian cafes in soho and read interesting books...
