True Story,Democratic Republic of the Congo 2003

I was sold when I was ten
to feed my brothers and  sisters
my mummy said,

they took me to a
strange,strange place
down jungle paths I had to walk
to the place where the soldiers slept
where me and Victoria, who is my friend
would sell our trinkets and
ourselves

Re-correction of work: go" to view my work", click on "Sold" and you can edit the piece.

Re the poem, you don't have to go to the Congo to see people being abused, male and famale, young and old.

East European Sex Slaves, Paedophile ensnared chidren, old folk in care homes, the list is endless.

Final thought, the 10 or 10+ year old brother/brothers would have been snatched and taken into one of the warring factions' armies to be eventually slaughtered.

Solemn Sid.

thanks guys for your comments,
kids are are taken by the militias in the DRC,same as in many other places.

not to sure if you can compare the sex slaves in eastern europe and south east asia to what goes on in afica??

in the african case it goes on in war zones, but we should not try and compare misery with misery

thanks again
bernie

ps .you are correct, you don't have to go to the DRC to see the abuse of young and old but it was where i was working when i first wrote this piece

can possibly describe what evil goes on....

But you have captured the 'voice' of a child and in doing so have made the poem poignant, disturbing and painful.

The last lines really made me shiver:
would sell our trinkets and
ourselves

Really well done...

best wishes

mishmish
thanks
