Being seen as...

I do not understand why people only see whats on the outside

You say I am only who I am
By just looking only at my skin
Letting my heart die
Not you seeing what’s with in

I am more, more than my color
I have a voice, have a voice like no other.
Yet you tell me I will ways be
just that girl
“Black” and only “Black” that you see
But please, please I have an inner me.

The flesh that covers my inside
The end point of it all
My brown eyes by brown skin
That is only the part I begin

I am sick of this
Sick of only being seen as “black”
I bet I have something
Something you lack.

I do not see why
Why this has to be
There is more, more in me!
Look beyond my skin
Look beyond color
I am a person.a person like no other!
