It needs to be said..... Written by gerardconnolly (1186 comments posted) 10th July 2006 |
Welcome back, Simon. Whatever differences we may have had I have to say this is a absolutely beautifully biting lampoon on the current site fashion for mutual flattery. Seriously, well done. I wish I had thought of it myself. Sadly I am too busy with working to eat to slobber all over some of the sadsacks that pepper this site. Ironically I have just posted a thread piece intimating as such. But this is so much more wickedly to the point. Well done! This is such a distictive and uniquely positive site it is easy to abuse it. Your hoof in the jellies for all the luvvies is most welcome. I hope they will all take on board that criticism and encouragement can easily stand alongside and, as I have tried to say, if smells like horseshit and looks like horseshit there is a equal chance it is horseshit. Say so. If only to prevent others from stepping in it. I have to admit I have not always taken my own advice. But your lampoon may persuade them to think what the site is about. Saying ' Fab!; Brill!; Wow; Awesome! You are Jesus C Shakespeare ' is easy', but not usually totally an honest response. If the site works it needs to get serious about wounding some thin skinned egos. The worse are the vast multitude of the 'indifferent'. [ The serious drivel is mercifully confined to the school holidays ]. They might improve if only somebody took it upon themselves to say so. We don't do anybody any favours by backslapping. Because publishers couldn't even spell the word. I regret our falling out. But so nice to see you back with so relevent jibe. The best on the comedy site of late because the joke is on us!! Slan! |
Now I see Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3449 comments posted) 10th July 2006 |
I take it all back now after gc's comment I have seen the light and can now see the true genius of the piece. Your wit and subtley surpasses anything in the canon of Shakespeare or Wilde. Each word is a testement to your genius. It is humour in it's most sublime and perfect form. You have set the mark for parody and satire that willl last for years. We can but look to this and say "Well I was here when it happened" I must now go back and read it again to nourish my poor soul (sigh!) BBS |

Thanks Gerard, no hard feelings either. Yes I thought it was time to make a point, it was getting beyond a joke (pun possibly intended). And BBS, thanks for your... |

Good valid points Simon. Like Gerard says we must all share the blame. I suppose it is the `wanting to be loved` syndrome at work. Can we perhaps all start again with a clean slate...Then again will we dare post any genuinely praising crits for fear of being `orrible little sycophants.... happy writing Wardy (sorry Woody) |

Well Simon, I hold you personally responsible for my recieieving a barnful of private mail electronic detritus accusing me of just about everything from lesse majestee, to treason. So be it. I can say nothing other than I continue to think that, whatever your motives, I think you are correct. If it makes us think a little more about being honest with eachother- and I do continue to insist I include myself in this- it will have been a worthwhile encounter. Slan! |

This is the comedy page isnt it? and mine was a parody eh? See where im going with this. I thought some of the behaviour I see on here worthy of parody, including the pratice of writing multiple reviews to oneself, which I have obviously done a take of. Can you really not take this joke? that is perhaps ratrher telling wouldnt you say? Chill winston. |
