Grandkids What can you say about grandkids? That hasn’t already been said? How when they’re born you give them your heart. And they give you a big burp instead. They look just like their dear mother looked When she was your bundle of joy. (This might seem odd, for, telling the truth Her bundle of joys are two boys!) They go fast asleep for their grandma, Though their Mummy might want them awake, So they’ll sleep like a log, all through the night And give their poor Mummy a break. Though their words will get a bit mixed up You’re sure that they’re bright for their age. And the way that they have of holding a book, You would swear they could read every page. Perhaps when at last they make it to school They won’t have to be taught how to read They’ll know all of Shakespeare and some of Joyce So of “Janet and John” there’s no need. But now for a while, they can sleep safe and sound And the look on their face is a grin. But when changing is needed, they’d better watch out Don’t let Grandad loose with that pin!
