Cord
By kitten_princess
21 July 2006
Something I wrote a little while ago.

Comments always loved and adored. Always!

Before I was evicted
From my mother's internal home
I had my umbilical cord.

When it snapped, I snapped.
I screamed for most of my
Infant life.

Now, at my
Pre mid-life crisis point,
I find a new cord.

My pen
     Connects me to
Comfort
Warmth
Safety
Happiness

Emptiness, yes
The emptiness of the
Anonymous audience

But the filling of pages
So many pages
Previously blank...

There is no emptiness
On the page
Or in my heart
When I am done.

Wild metaphor

I suppose the metaphor has it's natural home in poetry and you have come up with one really wild metaphor there; the pen as an umbilical cord re-connecting you to safety. I'm not sure I agree with it I wouldn't count warmth, comfort and safety amoung my emotions when I'm writing;most of the time it's a struggle but hey if that's the way it is for you then great I envy you. Especially in that last verse
An arresting bit of work, certainly made me think
cheers
