Time Passing Away
By Buchan
03 August 2006
Time passes away so slowly and we just do not see.

Have you noticed that time is passing
Slowly like a picture from a train window
People young, old soon gone like yesterday
Age advances as petals on a withered flower

Have you noticed that time is passing
Crispy crunchy celery has gone to soft pulp
Mirrors a picture of a garden long departed
Reflecting forgotten truth and changing values

Have you noticed that time is passing
Birth a purpose to die, life a reason to live
Large oak trees growing in a wooded glade
Waiting for the axeman to cut them down

Have you noticed that time is passing
Your peace today before the day has run away
Thinking thoughts to help not hinder
Our fellow man,in life perhaps we linger.

Time Passing Away

Yes, it's surprising how quickly time passes. I see members of my parents family have gone, but then I see the delightful new arrivals in our family. We seem as if we are on an escalator with some people getting on and others getting off at the various floors.

I thought how well you expressed time passing away in your poem. Your poem is a little sad, but time passing can be happy, and I think this especially now when I have reached retirement and have the time I always wanted to do things I enjoy doing - like time for the people in my life, and for writing poetry. Perhaps we need a follow up of the good things.
i love it..

i'm a big fan of poetry and i mostly like the ones with rhymes.. but this one didn't have any, yet i still fell in love with it...

good work with the imagery...

a tagalog song popped into my mind when i read this poem:

"Panapanahon ng pagkakataon (time and time of chances),

maibabalik ba ang kahapon? (can we bring back yesterday?)"

keep writing!

Inner Sadness
Written by mishmish (389 comments posted) 9th August 2006
This poem really touched me as it seems to symbolise the passage of time, but from an elderly person's perspective who thought they had much more time than they really had..

Once again Buchan, your imagery makes for a beautiful touching poem, that has some really super lines. My favourite verse:

Have you noticed that time is passing
Crispy crunchy celery has gone to soft pulp
Mirrors a picture of a garden long departed
Reflecting forgotten truth and changing values

The metaphor of life like celery or a garden long since departed...perfectly suited to this moving poem.

Really enjoyed it...thank you!

best wishes
