Clerihews

Saddam Hussain

Looked quite insane

In that beard.

Weird.

Her Majesty The Queen

Who is never mean

Carries no money.

Funny.

Delia Smith

Can take the pith

From out of fruit.

Cute.

I've always wondered what a Clerihew was and certainly till reading these, I could never have spelt it.

Pure nonsense and all the better for it,

Soul Bro' Siddie.
He's the kiddie
That the Clerihews
Amuse.

They are almost as insidious as a form as is the Haiku , and as insidious in emotional impact as is the Mondegreen .

I have a nostalgic fondness for the first I ever read , written by the inventor of the form , Edmund Clerihew Bentley

Sir Humphrey Davey
abominated gravy
lived in the odium
of having discovered Sodium
