My Grandad
By oxy
13 August 2006
My grandad has great big ears
and he's losing all his hair
he always wears a cardie
when he's in his special chair.

My grandad tells me stories
when I'm sitting on his knee
and in his cardie pocket
finds a lollipop for me.

He's always telling funny jokes
doing tricks and other things
and I always have to laugh
each time my grandad sings.

I love to give him cuddles
hugs and kisses too
my grandad really loves me
and grandad, I love you.

Grandad

This is a lovely little poem and conjures up a picture of Clive Dunn swinging in his rocking chair as he sang the song 'Grandad' all those years ago. Only one little fault. I think that the plural of story is stories and not story's.

This could be about my grandad! He died recently and i miss him terribly but this brought a little smile to my face. Grandads are the best.
However the last stanza wasn't really in keeping with the tone of the poem for me. Felt it was a little too childlike.
Well done, really lovely and well written.

I love your poem and agree with everyone above. I would add one little criticism though: I think you need a bit more work on your rhythm, although the rhyming is good. eg he's losing (1) all his (2) hair (3). There are three beats to this line and many others, but just occasionally you add an extra word and make it into 4.
For example: Line 1: It would be better if you said: "My grandad (1) has big (2) ears (3). The word "great" makes the line too long. I hope you'll go over my work too because I try to write with rhythm, and it's very difficult, but teachers have to teach it as part of the National Curriculum at school. I thought your poem was an excellent try.
