a hamster's life

a comical poem about a hamster

When I’m running on my wheel,
I do it with great zeal!
And when my whiskers twitch,
It sometimes makes me itch.

When I’m looking through my bars,
Out the window, at the cars,
I wonder what folks see,
As they’re looking in at me.

In their bigger furry coats,
I think they look like stoats!
I hope they’re not related,
As their fur is overrated!

I pass away the day
Eating tasty hay,
And other simple treats.
I’ve plenty here to eat!

Not like the folks out there,
Who sometimes stop and stare,
Or smile at me and say,
“How are you today?”

I bet they’d be surprised!
I bet they’d rub their eyes!
If I answered them right back,
That would stop them in their tracks!

So I’ll stick to looking cute,
I won’t try to play the flute!
I’m happy with my hamster life,
At least I’ll never need a wife!
