Nature Poem

Summer memories!

A lush canopy of silver dollars scatters flecks of topaz over the rich red clay,
A shimmering stream far below captures the sun’s golden hair,
Spreading it out in a marbled pattern on the shiny grey dragon scales.
Smooth roots mirror the rippled Vs in the creek like ancient dinosaur fossils,
And tiny purple blossoms, so perfect Mother Nature would wear them around her neck, are miniature windmills swaying to and fro in the delicate breeze.

Flip flop,
Splash!
Shriek!!
Strange creatures dance into the scene, disturbing the eternal lullaby of the stream,
Glittering honey curls bounce to the musical giggling in the soft fresh air.
The stream bubbles in reply, glowing even more brilliantly,
Enveloping with flexible arms of glass,
Jumping into the air in droplets of pure joy.
Huge energetic leaves like billowing fans lap at the stream,
Gnarled branches, smooth and creamy twist into black tresses.

Puffs of pillowy cotton swirl around like clumps of cloud in a blissful fantasy,
Following the brook, past cushions of thick moss, over big friendly logs.
Back to the school,
Three friends,
Each covered in wild forest,
One,
Soaked.

Your poem is filled with everything - metaphors, personifications, colour, feel and sound. What a brilliant imagination you have got! I really envy you and if we don't hear that you've become famous in the poetry world, then I'll eat my hat, ha ha. I loved the words that you used - puffs of pillowy cotton, clouds of blissful fantasy, glittering honey curls! Absolutely lovely. I could go on, but I'm going to read your poem a few more times and probably print it off. It's lovely.
