A Birthday Gift
By Talisker
17 September 2006
Great googley moogley!  I forgot it was my Wife's birthday today!  A present (or indeed card) was thus not begotten.  This is my poor effort to seek redemption.

Oli.

I’ll write for you a madrigal,

Each word a gemstone bright.

And build for you a castle,

And be your gallant knight.

I’ll bathe your naked body,

In lotions from the East.

For you deserve anointing,

Let me be your humble priest.

I’ll worship at your altar,

My goddess from above.

Shower you with kisses,

Overpower you with love.

How can I say I love you,

In this clumsy, boyish verse?

My fluency is lacking,

My lexicon is worse.

But try I must my darling,

For words are all I’ve got,

To win your sweet devotion,

To tie this lover’s knot.

So please accept this homage,

In lieu of birthday gift,

Have you the heart to pardon me?

Forgive me for my thrift?

Do ten and seven blissful years,

Not prove my loving heart?

Un-tether not our mooring rope,

We must not drift apart!

For love cannot be measured,

By a parcel and a card,

I’m still your loving husband,

And your stumbling, mumbling bard.

I hope either:
you've got lots of Cava in,
or your last poem was not about you and the birthday girl!

Nice poem Talisker. Did it do the trick?

All the best,

Phil.

Words are not enough, man! You have to prove that you're indeed sorry! Like Phil, may I ask..did it do the trick? 8)

My clothes are not yet in the street. So I suppose it worked up to a point. I'm still in the dog house though.
