Prince William`s first Posting revealed...
By woody44
23 September 2006

Thought I`d slip this one in to kick things off on the new site...

It has just been announced that Prince William is to be in charge of a NATO force being sent to the Isles of Scilly. There has been rising tension on the Islands over the past few months regarding the siting of the new waste incinerator plant, and feeling are running high amongst the native population. A force of two thousand men will be landed on the Islands under the cover of darkness, these being reinforced if the situation worsens, by six Lynx helicopters. Two navy destroyers have also been deployed to blockade the harbour of St Marys to stop any further protesters infiltrating the Island in the guise of twitchers.
A spokesperson for the Travel Association said the situation on the Islands had become quite volatile over the last few days, and contingency plans were being drawn up to evacuate visitors if the situation became untenable. We are getting reports of sporadic skirmishes between rival factions, and in one particularly nasty incident a tourist had his anorak sleeve torn in two places.
The main bone of contention seems to be the siting of the incinerator chimney. At present it stands on a piece of high ground just above the harbour and is clearly visible as something to aim at for the fishermen coming back after a day at sea. The new chimney would be sited two miles inland and as such the Island fishermen would be in serious danger of landing their hard-earned catch in Padstow.
This will be the Prince`s first command since completing his training and is seen both by the Government and the Royal Family as a very tough and dangerous assignment. Most of the soldiers will be billeted in a tented encampment on Castle Rock, the only large area of flat land on the main island. For security reasons Prince William will be staying at the five star Castle Hotel. We wish him and his men a successful campaign and a safe return....

..first post in the new forum.

Anything that mocks that useless bunch of scrounging idlers does it for me. Sorry, that sounds like faint praise.

Great piece. You did what I would have been unable to do - avoid a rant. Tongue in cheek rather than outright revolution - woops - there I go again.

Really enjoyed it,

All the best,

Phil.

Can only echo Phil with this.... yeah, "scrounging idlers" is far too diplomatic. Harold Wilson will be turning in his grave (it's deja-vu with the Russians all over again) - not that little Willie would know it was there. Great stuff, very enjoyable.
Another repository for our mad ramblings

Thanks Phil, glad to see you are a dyed-in-the-wool Royalist! I had this piece ready to post on Comedy when I saw our wonderful editorial team had got the `spoof` forum up and running. Well done folks!

And you also Coosh my friend. I thought long and hard about putting this piece up because I fervently believe in the Monarchy and would hate to see their meagre privileges curtailed. I wept openly in the street when our dear Queen had to give up her yacht and settle for a mere second-hand car ferry....and as for their cramped housing...such fortitude.

Thank you dear lady, and congrats on getting the new section up and running. There is certainly plenty of news out there, as I`m sure we shall see over the coming weeks! I can hear the unfolding of broadsheets already (plus of course the tearing of red tops in the loo)

Well done Woody. A piece after my own heart. I've transferred my effort here too as it is where it belongs. I'll do something original to promote the site when I have a moment.

Slan!

Thanks Gerard, look forward to seeing more of your cutting-edge wit on this new site. Trouble with all this is my other half is beginning to forget what I look like....

If this is representative of the quality we can expect, I shall be spending a lot of time in this room.

Thanks for brightening a dull day Woody!

Sorry Woody, I've been away for a week, so only just got back to find our persistence paid off. Good opener, I shall endeavour to conjure a little summat in the coming days.

Liked this one by the way matey, and I'm glad you were the one to break the new site's duck.

Thanks Chris - hope you enjoyed your break, if that`s what it was, and I look forward to you joining the fray once again.
