Hello Mary-Sue, Goodbye heart!

Americans have some great phrases we just don't have here. Other than 'soccer mom', one of my favourites is Mary-Sue, a somewhat unkind term for characters used as wish-fulfillment on the part of the author. If you think you may have a little too much in  common with your protagonist, take the rather amusing Mary-Sue Litmus Test.
