I start it
My pen brushing the Smooth blank paper
I don’t want to blot it
To soil it To smudge the meaning of The words
The words
I sometimes can not find The exact, precise, perfect Expression to convey All that is on my mind
It scares me
I fumble in the darkness The line is going hazy The communication down My native tongue fails me I struggle to force it Make it happen No such luck
So the page is still blank
Unmarked and untouched I have a notebook Full of these unfound masterpieces Blank
Somehow there is a poetic justice
In that. |

| Familiar feeling... Written by Talisker (1331 comments posted) 26th September 2006 | Do you write much on paper though? I haven't for ages. I bought a new fountain pen today with just that intention - there's something about the permanence of ink, and the pressure to get it write first time... Thought provoking stuff. Thanks brooksy Oli | Written by brook_rivers (486 comments posted) 26th September 2006 | thanks for your comments guys!! To Phil i will be adding thoughts on next months lazy writers over in the forum as you asked previously. To Oli an interesting question there. I always write on paper first and then type up my work. I know that means double the work but i find i can let my self 'scribble' on paper and then type up in neat! I might go and 'poll' this on the forums to see what others do as me and you seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum Oli!! all the best brook xx | Written by ellipinnock (1786 comments posted) 29th September 2006 | I loved this. There's something magical about a fountain pen and paper, especially for writing poetry. Elli | Always with a pen Written by CameronS (20 comments posted) 24th October 2006 | I liked this too. I always write my first drafts with a pen then redraft onto PC. I learnt to write with a pen so feel it helps me to connect with my childhood memories and feelings. S. | The Teacher Speaks Written by Patrician (7 comments posted) 28th October 2006 | Hi there. I can't tell you how many times I have watched my students stare at a blank page. It's so tempting to give them a "first line" so that they can get moving. Further, I have recently started journaling again late in the evening. I enjoyed your piece immensely. You successfully captured the struggle all writers face at one point or another, regardless of age. Patrician |
