It's for you all to judge in your own capacity. These are my feelings and experience. Feel free to comment on what your opinions are...

BLIND IN AN ILLUMINATED WORLD!

The world comes to a dead silence

As the power goes off

For a moment or two

Each one of us goes blind

Mind goes blank, then wanders

Slowly the feet start moving

Searching for a candle and match box

Darkness engulfs its arms all around

Suddenly everyone starts whispering

Fear larks, not knowing

The mystery lingers

There’s calmness all around

Silence becomes the beauty for a moment

As darkness spreads its tentacles

Accustomed to the illuminated world

For a moment we become handicap

Struggling with fear and doubts

One wishes the darkness to go away

As the hand finds the candle and match box

The sigh of relief makes a sound

With a spark everything is normal once again

Imagine, have you ever?

When you see a blind person

Smiling, sharing and living life whole-heartedly

A life that is engulfed in darkness forever

With no fear to explore ever

He treads his path fearlessly

With no worry of illumination ever

I see them every day on the railway station

The bunch of FORTUNATE blind people

Laughing, joking, pulling each other’s legs

Sharing their joys and sorrows

Not knowing the world is illuminated

They enjoy the gift of life to the fullest

While others are blinded by the illuminated world

Fortunate are they (blind people)

For they fear not about illumination

Their world is illuminated with darkness

They can see! They can feel

They enjoy, they laugh

While we pity them always

WE are the actual blinds, living in the illuminated world!

Blind

You poem certainly makes one think, and have you read "In the Country of the Blind" by H G Wells? You should. I couldn't think they are lucky though because I would not like to miss the beautiful colours of the changing leaves as autumn approaches, or miss seeing the colours of the flowers or not see people's smiles. But I think that some people are blind to other people's feelings - and they are the most blind of them all!

I get the message, very worthy. You have a clear opinion, which I think I can empathise with, but not the way it is put across. Even as a poetic device; to say the physically blind are fortunate strikes me as, at the least, unconsidered.

All the best,

Phil.
