Markus Andersen found a skull on the manor's grounds and informed sgt. Bagheera. He in turn called Holmes and Watson from the Town Police to investigate and then took Lady Helen Nascent and Peter Jack to the police-station for questioning. The weather seemed to share sgt. Bagheera's sense for drama. As soon as Peter and lady Helen entered the police-station, a lightning flashed through the sky and a moment later the thunderclap was heard. The sergeant showed them to his office and gestured that they could sit down. " Now than, mr. Jack. You seem to be a very mysterious subject." " Am I then?" " You appear here just a few weeks ago, got yourself a job at the manor and suddenly you seem to be Lady's most trusted friend." " Is that forbidden?", Lady Helen whished to know," I needed a hand and he seems a fine lad. I don't need that much time to see if someone is honest." Sgt. Bagheera frowned. " A bit ignorant of you perhaps, mylady?" " A bit impolite of you perhaps, officer?" The sergeant looked at Peter again. " Tell me, did you know the old lady Nascent?" " How could he have?", Lady Helen exclaimed. " Sit down please. I asked this question to mr. Jack." Peter didn't get the time to answer though, for there was a knock on the door. " I'm busy", sgt. Bagheera shouted. " But sir", a voice on the other side said," Inspector Holmes and doctor Watson of the Town Police are here with the results from the lab." " This quick? Let them in." The two men came in and inspector Holmes put a little plastic bag with something which looked like a tiny, brown pebble on the desk. " The poor fellow's eye-tooth", he explained. " Well then", sgt. Bagheera said " It seems I've brought the Lady and the Aussie here just in time to watch the grand finale then." " Grand indeed, my dear Bagheera. Right from the beginning I thought this case was rather elementary, and the research of my dear Watson here proved my theory correct." " Which is?" " Patience, my dear Bagheera, you don't want to spoil the moment, do you? See, you had this suggestion that the body must have been there for some decades, hadn't you?" " Yes, I had such a theory..." " Well then, let's say that you were right about him being there for quite some time." Sgt. Bagheera nodded, and he was obviously proud that his conclusion was confirmed by inspector Holmes. " But... I'm afraid that you underestimated the time a bit." " Ah? How long ago has he been burried then?" " Let's say... What was it again, dear Watson?" " A thousand till fifteenhundred years ago." Sgt. Bagheera's jaw dropped and he gazed at the doctor. " I don't think Peter is that old", Lady Helen said, and she smirked at the sergeant. " But, how..." " I'm sorry dear Bagheera", Holmes said," This case has been extinguished by limitation. Of course we are still curious about the cause of his death, but I'm afraid that that is something for archeologists rather than policemen." Sgt. Bagheera blinked again and looked at the papers in front of him, on which he had made some notes about the case. " Well then, mr. Jack", he said, with a sour smile at Peter, " You are no longer a suspect. You are free to go." " Thank you." Peter grinned. " But...", the sergeant continued," Everything which is found at that spot is property of the state. I'll inform the National Heritage Foundation and, although the spot is no longer a crime scene, I suggest you do not remove anything. So, no treasure hunting, mr. Jack, mylady."
