To COOSH:Cynicism
By BrianRobertNeal
29 September 2006
To save you having to go scrabbling about.

My accent gives ten beats a line.

Ruth-archaic word opposite of ruthless.

Cynic:a romantic with broken heart.

Pragmatistm, their smokescreen; hides this truth.

Belief that things could and should be sublime

Places their dismissive comments apart;

From those that accept the lack of all ruth;

For whom life is but vicious pantomime.

Well, thanks, Brian.

Not just an idealist whose been happy-slapped by reality, then...

You make it sound quite positive to me, but then I'm fairly cynical - I can even identify with some of it. Particularly like the last line (almost kinda Shakespearean style) (I'm not a poetry critic - but as regards the content, I like it).
Not only but also.

It sounds like an inspired dictionary definition of what it means to be a cynic. You looked at the word from the perspective of a broken heart- thats interesting. An act of cynicism can also be seen as a human flaw devoid of depth and love too, it would be interesting to see this side in your poem.
Restrained yet effective.
An elegant piece.

Thanks for your time and comments.

In my world there are three types of person namely: -

1) The romantic who believes the world is wonderful and won't hear otherwise.

2) The realist who believes that the world has been, is and will always be utterly corrupt and vile. So why make a fuss about it, just work it to your advantage

3) The cynic who does believe that the world could be wonderful but knows it is not so, and that this is worthy of comment.

Some actions etc you would attribute to a cynic I would consider the province of the realist.

Brian
cynical realist perhaps?

Interesting points from your world, and it does sound as if i was talking about a realist. Or maybe i was thinking of the above? I enjoy confusing myself :) and perhaps you were talking about a cynical romantic...

thankyou for your recent review by the way, will take into account what youve said.

Was it Rene Descartes who believed that, "nothing is without thinking making it so,"? (Mind it would have been in French.)
