I looked out of the bedroom window into my little garden. I have two whisky barrels that I made into a water feature, and there was a beautiful grey wagtail bathing and drinking! I usually just get sparrows and starlings (no offence to those!), but I felt honoured. Maybe even that it was a harbinger of some good luck (for a change!).
Oli.
Welcome to my garden,
Little bird of hill and stream!
Your smart grey suit,
With wagging tail,
Your yellow shirt agleam.
I thank you pretty wagtail,
For brightening my day,
I’m glad you chose,
My little pond,
To dip, and skip, and play.
Farewell then little fellow!
I see you’ve drank your fill,
Safe journey to wherever,
Which field or farm or hill!
Remember please,
My little friend,
Where once you chose to rest,
And come again my heart to lift,
My little patch to bless.

This is a lovely sweet poem - brings to mind warm summer days, with blue skies and birds singing, making you glad to be alive. Every time I see you have posted up another poem, I always read it straight away, and I am never disappointed. |

See what I mean about range Oli? You've done it again. This is a lovely piece where you show appreciation for beauty in the simple but wonderful things around you. It also shows your simple (In spirit not mind!) humanity. All the best, Phil. |

iam sorry oli, it's too much syrup. |

This is not syrup - it's beautiful, heartfelt, and it's simplicity is what makes it such a masterpiece. There is a lot you could learn from this man. What he does not know about poetry is not worth knowing. |
The Real Thing! Written by gerardconnolly (1186 comments posted) 3rd October 2006 |
Hello, Oli. Just caught this one on a flying visit. Very competent piece of business. Not your best; but beautifully executed. Lovely teasing fun underscoring the words. I continue to think that you and Patterjack in verse; Mishmish in prose; and Givitsum, Spokesbloke for the Gagmasters Guild of Great Britain, are what makes this site worth visiting. The real thing! My fondest compliments to you! Slan! |

I enjoyed this poem so much, there's really not much more I can say. The minute I took to read this was indeed a minute well spent. Eleni. |
I am NOT worthy! Written by Talisker (1331 comments posted) 3rd October 2006 |
But thank you all! Your kind comments keep me writing. Its becoming an obsession I think! Lyn - you are insane! There are more things I don't know about poetry than grains of sand in the Sahara! But thanks for leaping to my defense! It was very sweet, syrupy even! GC - thanks my friend, I thought Cromwell had actually captured you! I guess it must be a busy life - the professional writing trade. Your reviews have always been very encouraging AND very fair. I appreciate that so much. Elli & Eleni - thanks you soooo much! I think this is one of my favourites that I've written so far. The inspiration was instant & simple - it just seemed to flow out of me! I'm thrilled that you liked it! Oli. |

| I reminded me of romantic poems, To the Skylark or To the Cuckoo. Great range. Keep writing! |
