Patterjack pointed out some inconsistencies. Professor Brown's phonecall and the encounter between F.C. and miss Helen and Peter took place after mrs. Day left. So here's a modified version of the same scene. Just after mrs. Day had taken the photographs home, the phone at the manor rang. " Helen Jones." " Jones? Not Nascent? Ah well. You are the owner of the Nascent manor?" " I am. And you are?" " O pardon me. My name is Brown. I'm a professor at the Town Univerity. We heard about the find in your backyard. We would like to investigate." " Ah?" " I have a very talented PhD student. I would like to send her to explore the site before we start digging, is that allright? I think we could be dealing with a very interesting find here." " Are we? Well, I'm rather busy at the moment. When to you intend to send her over?" " Would this afternoon suit you?" " I guess that'd be allright. What's your student's name?" " Croft. Franca Croft." Miss Helen and Peter had left the main gate open and F.C. could ride her motorcycle up the path and park it right in front of the manor's main entrance. This happened while Peter was repairing a tap at the ground floor. He was startled by the sudden noise outside, but soon recovered of his surprise and he went into the hall to check who the intruder was. Just as he touched the handle though, the door-bell was rung. He opened the door and stared into the dark eyes of F.C. " Good morning." She held out her hand. " I'm Franca Croft of the Town University. Professor Brown must have informed you of my visit." " Professor Brown?" Peter raised an eyebrow. " The head of the archeological department. He sent me to do some research before the excavation begins." " I see..." Her mischievous smile made him feel a little uncomfortable and he was a relieved when he heard miss Helen's footsteps on the stairs. " Who's there?", she asked. " Miss Croft, from the university." " Miss Croft... Oh yes, some professor just called me. I hadn't expected you this soon." She shook the woman's hand. " I'm Helen Johnson, and you're lucky. I think there are still some scones left. Would you like a cup of tea?" " Franca Croft. And tea'd be lovely, but, if you don't mind I'd like to see the Old Lord first." " The Old Lord?" " The man in your garden." " Oh... The skeleton in the woodland you mean. There's still a policeman on guard there, because of all the gold. I'm not sure if you can just go there and start digging." " No problem. The university already discussed this with the police."
