Ode to Miss Carruthers
By Snodlander
06 October 2006
Many decades ago there was a 6th form charity revue on the theme of Education.  I wrote and performed this opus.

A teacher compared it to Betjeman.  I think it's closer to Benny Hill.

I love you, Miss Carruthers, although you must never know,
But I think about you every day and night.
You must have some emotions, but you never let them show.
To deny a love so strong just can't be right.

When you walk into the class with your books held in your arms
I imagine just how happy they must be.
What I'd give to be with them, to surrender to your charms.
to hear you whisper "I love you.  D'you love me?"

When you hand my homework back, and you've marked a question wrong,
I pretend the cross you've given me's a kiss.
I know it's very silly, but I'm happy all day long.
Though my mates would laugh at me, I love you, Miss.

In the front row I will sit, and I'll hang on all you say,
And I'll try to answer everything I can.
But I've tried to let you know in so many different ways
That I think perhaps there is another man!

When I lay awake each night, try to soothe my aching heart,
I start wondering if my love was meant to be.
But I know I'll love you always, as I have done from the start,
'Cause I love you very, very much, Miss C.

It was Miss Rea for me, and I was only ten. She had the look of Sophia Lauren. (It was about 1977)

Brought back memories.

Liked it.

The latter married the school dentist. Its the opposite of the "Don't Stand So Close To Me" scenario (The Police). Ah, those innocent days.

Brought it flooding back, thanks.

Oli.
