What makes sexy women (and men for that matter) is not so much their looks but their attitude. One of the sexiest performances I saw was by Bette Midler in her one-woman show. And Tina Turner is a Gran, for crying out loud. So I deliberately kept the description of the main character to a minimum. She pulled the plug on the jukebox and waited for the noise of conversation to drop. When she knew she had the attention of most of the men in the bar she started her walk to the small stage. She walked slowly, swinging her feet one in front of the other as though she were walking a tightrope, aware of the effect it had on her hips. Aware of the effect it had on the men. She mounted the few steps to the stage and then negotiated the wipe-clean mattresses to the centre. She slowly ran her finger over the saddle, feeling the grain under her light caress. Then she looked out at the mass of faces, all staring at her. The conversation had died away completely now. Slowly, deliberately, she drew her finger towards her mouth. She delicately licked the tip of her finger, trying to catch the eye of as many of the men in the room as she could. She could taste the linseed oil from the saddle. She could feel the pressure of the eyes as each man stared. Halfway between the bar and his table a man she didn’t recognise had stopped, a beer in each hand. He stared opened-jawed. Everything from his ‘I heart NY’ cap to his XXL lumberjack shirt stretched over his stomach declared him to be a trucker. She winked at him, knowing that he would be back. She ran her hand through her long hair, combing it back, then without warning brought her open palm down hard on the leather with a thwack that reverberated around the bar. The NY lover dropped a glass with a smash. Some of the guys tittered. "Tonight is the night I’m going to beat 30 seconds", she cried. "This bad boy is going to get his ass whooped." A cheer so loud it seemed solid hit her. Men banged bottles on the table. A few whistled. She waited for the hubbub to die down. Then she faced the mechanical bull. Feet apart, she slowly stretched down. Grasping her ankles she pulled her body down. Through the legs of her jeans she could see the men grinning. A few catcalls were swallowed by the general silence. She stretched to one side. She was sure some of the customers leaned with her. The other side. Then she straightened up and rolled her head to loosen up her neck. She mounted the bull, making sure her leg went higher and wider than was strictly necessary. She turned to look at the man behind the bar. Then, in as suggestive a voice as she could muster, she said, "I’m ready for my ride, Dave. Make me buck!" Dave hit the switch, and the bull started to turn and buck. The earlier cheer seemed nothing to the mass of sound that hit her now. Men were standing, whooping and whistling. Some were beating the tables with glass or bottle. Some were slapping their thighs or waving their hats in the air. She held on tight with her knees gripping the saddle and one hand on the saddle horn. The other hand she held high above her and waved as the machine pitched and turned. She tossed her head in time to the movements of the bull, making her hair whip around her. The bar was in a frenzy. Then the regulars started to count down. "10 – 9 – 8…" She waited until they reached five then relaxed her thighs, allowing herself to be tossed to the mattress. There was a general cheer from the crowd. She picked herself up and walked to the front of the stage. The cheering died a little. "Dammit", she shouted above the noise. "I was sure I was going to beat it tonight. Oh well, a deal’s a deal. Happy Hour is extended by half an hour." The noise surged again, and she made her way through the cheering crowd to the bar. Someone plugged the jukebox in and the noise started to sink to its normal level. As she passed Dave he was grinning ruefully and shaking his head. "Are you sure you weren’t a stripper before I married you?" he asked. She patted him on his backside, because she knew he loved that. "Only for you, hun. Only ever for you." And then she turned to Mr NY lover and smiled. "Hiya, handsome. Ain’t you gorgeous? Another beer? You can come here again, handsome, I like a man that can drink. You’re going to tell all your buddies about this stopover, now ain’t you?"
