Why does one write when inspiration is sadly lacking? Am I impelled this page to fill, Elysian fields of white to curse? Should I despoil with brutal quill, Make perfect whiteness, something worse? Must I this virgin snow corrupt, With careless tread, to what design? Sublime potential thus usurped, With hollow words, the fault is mine. Why do I feel the urge to write, With heavy heart, lacklustre mind, To dredge up whimsy, bland and trite, Dim-sighted wit to lead the blind? Is it some breed of arrogance, This need to sully perfect white, To follow some absurd pretence, To under think, to overwrite? Or are these mere cathartic rites, Roughage for a stolid brain, To clear the blockage, cure the plight, Get the wheels to turn again? If so, I pray the cure will work For this poor mind is solid blocked, An answer for this bold Young Turk, May be in this conundrum locked. Oli (17/10/06)
