a childhood memory Castaway Whenever I hear the tram's bell (background music along the promenade) I think of my father as a younger man running beside me on the beach steadying the saddle before launching me for a solo ride. On that brand-new bicycle I wobbled uncertainly as he called "Don't stop pedalling" When I looked back he was nowhere to be seen: there was only the future.
