Winding Down

I loved Josie's poem- Identity crisis- and Witzl's response.  I have a pet that may be feeling the same way.  I wrote this for him.

I used to run and chase the squirrels;
I’d bark at every sound.
I’d chase a ball and spend some time;
My nose upon the ground.

But as of late, I find it hard
To even get around.
My eyes don’t focus very clear;
I don’t hear every sound.

And when it’s time to eat my food,
My teeth don’t work so well.
They have to fix my food quite soft;
The taste is not too swell.

I’d rather nap for I find that,
I saw some big, old logs.
I worry they will put me in
A nursing home for dogs.

You will have to give him a mirror and then he will have an "identity emergency" (as in my poem). My dear little Jack Russell has just died a couple of months' ago, and I don't think I'll ever forget her. (She was eighteen and a half). Yes, dogs face it also and I watched as mine wound down. You had to shout "squirrel" into her ear, but even then she'd lost the interest. However, the smile in the eyes and the tail wag were the last things to go.
