Vultures with flapping academic dress have been seen flying over Sydney, following the discovery of a box of previously unpublished material , aides-memoires and letters from the estate of Australia's only Nobel Laureate in literature .
"This has enough substance for multiple Ph D. s, " crowed an ecstatic librarian.
" I look forward to the deconstruction of White's personal life , personality and as an adjunct , some of his corrected paper's from his literay works . "
The jackals will no doubt also soon appear

Hi Brian Written by jean.day (2326 comments posted) 2nd November 2006 | | Short but full of inuendo. I suppose those of us who get excited about other's writing must seem like vultures and jackals sometimes. | But honest .. Written by patterjack (1328 comments posted) 2nd November 2006 | ... I was shooting at the Ph D hounds , not the great Patrick White himself . His dismemberment will no doubt now proceed apace on the anatomy tables of Academe -- providing juicy bits for those with little taste in literature itself but a gluttonous hunger for academic recognition gained through pawing over the new canon. First in , best served -- the last one gets dry bones . patterjack
| Talk about vivisectors. . . Written by Witzl (1585 comments posted) 3rd November 2006 | This is the first I have heard about the discovery, which shows you how far behind I am in the news department. The only Patrick White novel I have ever read was 'Voss,' but I do remember having thought that the writer was almost more interesting than the book. What an amazing, principled man he was. I am torn between thinking that it was too bad he didn't torch all his papers and correspondence -- and wanting to know what was in them. | Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3445 comments posted) 3rd November 2006 | I think vulture is about right and the giveaway line;- "This has enough substance for multiple Ph D. s, " people who like to bask the the reflected glory of the great by analysing them and deconstucting them. I remember reading Bob Dylan caught some one going through his garbage and it turned out to be a college academic "doing resarch" good point BBS | Written by coosh (888 comments posted) 3rd November 2006 | | Excellent vulture/crow images. Apologies for my ignorance of Mr. White, but no doubt more will come out as they pick over his bones. Would like to have read a little more on the subject. Good stuff. | A fourth uneasy piece... Written by Talisker (1328 comments posted) 3rd November 2006 | He says displaying the extent of his PW collection. He's one of my twin brother's very favourites, but I've not got round to him yet. I have "The Vivisector" around somewhere. Anyway, the point is a universal one. Toadys and lickspittles making a buck from publication of stuff that was rejected by the artist. Criminal, I hope old Paddy haunts the bastards horribly! It reminds me of all the postumous shit released in Jimi Hendrix's name. Oli. |
