The finest literature for free
Written by Mike Atherton

Way back when the information superhighway was all fields, a noble little project started up to convert classic (and thankfully out of copyright) works of literature to electronic format. Today, Project Gutenberg has over 15,000 works completed, including such icons as Treasure Island, Moby Dick, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, and Right Ho, Jeeves. And the list goes on. And on. And on. In fact, they've expanded their offerings to audio recordings of some works, and even classical sheet music. Ye Gods.

Best of all, they're falling over themselves to make this stuff free. In the unlikely event that you're unable to download the eBooks, you can even request that they pop a CD-ROM in the post for you. Now there's no excuse to not be well-read.
