Hoy! Pinoy Ako!

ohkei...the title is in Tagalog.. in English, that would mean: "Hey! I'm a Filipino!" I don't know why I had the sudden urge to write, though.. haha... Well.. Dies De Los Muertos just finished and while I was at the cemetary I grabbed a piece of paper and pen and started writing it down while my cousins and siblings were playing with the candles, sitting on the graves and well... playing poker. Enjoy!

Whoever, do you think, points with his or her lips?

Who eats with their hands -- right down to a technique!

Who always has a piano no one ever plays?

Who always offers food to anyone who stays?

With useless H's inserted in already-too-long names,

Like Vhon, and Wheng, and Thina and also, classic Jhames.

Who always has an uncle or brother called "Boy"?

With houses full of useless tinker toys?

Who has Gian spoons and forks forevermore neglected?

Who sleep on still plastic-covered beds?

Who always has a potrait of Jesus' last supper?

Who always says "Hoy!" instead of names of others?

"Prijider" for "refridgerator" and "CR" for the loo

"Ajinomoto" for any "Toyo" spice, too!

Who was taugt to treat everyone like family,

Filipinos, unique, with our owns style and vocabulary!

So many things we have learnt about Filipinos from your poem RiLie, and so interesting, but do you know why these things happen? I mean, for example, why do they have a piano that nobody plays? I can understand how hospitable they are to people and appreciate how nice it is to be treated like family. When we have had visitors from abroad stay with us, I have done the same (and people from our own country too, of course) - but I always think that if the first impression visitors from abroad receive of a country is in your home, then it should be a good one. Lovely poem!
