Bound
By JourneyAtNight

Bound by duty
Ropes, rough and unfeeling
Cutting in at my flesh
Unyielding
Bruising the truth
Until it too becomes weak.

Caged in by expectations
The key in the lock
Waiting to be turned.

But obligation ties me down.

So I just close my eyes.

I can certainly relate to that. You feel like you have to do something, feel obliged to do it even though you don't want to or don't feel like you're ready for it, and it gets to a stage where the only thing you can do to escape it is sleep...The weight of the world on your shoulders, and nothing can stop it.
If that's what you mean, I totally know where you're coming from. Excellent.

Interesting (I seem to be using that word a lot recently!) Short and to the point, I like this more every time I read it.

I was "bound" to like this, JAN.

A short but poignant (personal?) examination of restriction.

A worthy work.

Oli :)
thankyou...

Thanks for your comments.

Shakermaker (your name makes me giggle :grin ) -
Yes that is pretty much what I mean, although when writing this, "close my eyes" wasn't meant in the literal sense, it was just my way of describing blocking everything out. But it's true that sleep is a good escape.

Ellipinnock - I'm glad you liked this. And 'interesting' is a damn good word that should be used alot! ;)

Talisker - Again, I'm glad that you liked it. Yes I suppose it is quite personal, but I think it's something that alot of people can relate to in a way too. Much appreciated. :)

This is where I am right now - so this one did it for me. The second part rings so true.

Liked it a lot.

All the best,

Phil.
