Cold Sores
By Talisker
14 November 2006
Opinions are like cold sores,
Ugly and painful
Better hide yours
It’s embarrassing, disdainful
To let people know
What you think
Better a quid pro quo,
Than a blink
Revealing
Your true feeling
What you really think

Nonsense, Oli -- everybody is entitled to my opinions, and yours too.

I don't agree with you, but I find your unabashed honesty refreshing all the same. You express yourself and stand up for your beliefs and why shouldn't you? I'd be ashamed of myself if I didn't stand up for my own beliefs, if I mumbled half-hearted agreement when deep within, I felt nothing of the kind.

Quid pro quos don't work when it comes to personal belief. One person cannot say to another 'I'll agree with you, if you agree with me. I'll like what you like, if you like what I like.' It just doesn't work that way, thank God.

Anyway -- ever tried to hide a cold sore? It can't be done. And even if you did manage to succeed in convincing others that it wasn't there, you'd still feel it.

Keep an open mind, by all means. But keep your opinions coming too. Especially when they are so eloquently expressed.

And they have a nasty habit of spreading if you pick at them (as I know to my cost).

I may not agree with your opinion, I may not even agree with the way you express your opinion but that does not mean I would rather that you did not share them.

After all, these things are only opinions, not concrete truths and therefore the way is open for us to interpret the same facts in vastly different ways.

I may not always express my opinion as well, or as eloquently as you but I would not hide my opinions for fear of embarassment nor expect you to do the same.

All the best

I am a Good Boy.

Hats off to Witzl for the first Mark Twain quote I have spotted on this site.

Slan to you all. I am keeping my own counsel, like the good boy I am.

Mind you : ' Blessed friends I do beseech you in the bowels of Christ that we all of us hang together in this most grave matter; or Yea! Assuredly! We shall all of us hang separately!'

My compliments to you all.

No, say it and be damned - or bide your time - but don't acquiesce quietly.

One of the things I like about you Oli, is your honesty.

All the best,

Phil.
Irony?
Written by Fledermaus (3159 comments posted) 15th November 2006
A pretty ironic piece if I consider who wrote it. And how can I give an opinion on a piece against opinions? Nevertheless, I give one:
It's a good poem.
