Fragments

Not my work, but fragments of childhood rhymes my granny used to recite/sing to us.  I can't find reference to them anywhere, is anyone else familiar with them?

Whae’s at the windae wa?

Whae’s at the windae wa?

Well, ‘twas auntie Jeanie,

Wae a basket oan her back,

Comin’ tae tak ye awa wa wa.

Whaur will she tak ye tae?

Whaur will she tak ye tae?

Well she’ll tak ye tae yer grannie’s hoose,

An’ gie ye pieces an’ tea, tea, tea.

Sittin’ oan ‘es mammie’s knee

Waitin’ fer a wee bobee

Tae buy some coulter’s candy.

Hang on -- isn't it 'greetin for a willie bobbee / to buy some coulter's candy?'

Maybe that's just my own Chinese whispers recollections. . .

From time to time I hear words or phrases here that I remember from the songs and ballads my mother used to sing. Sadly, I never sat down with her and wrote them all out . . .

Last one rings a bell - but alas, very faint.

Sorry - no help here.

All the best,

Phil.

I like use of dialect in some rhyme/poetry where you can just pick out the message but know that to other people it might be complete gibberish - I like "The maid gaed tae the mill" performed by Ewan McColl.

Don't know any of the above though.

Gar.
