Christmas Fairies - A poem for children
By Josie
22 November 2006
Just a little Christmas story poem for children

Just walk along a Christmas street,  stained gold with bright street lights –
Where people gaze at bright shop fronts and  murmer with delight.

The pavement's filled with colour now - such lovely reds and greens.
There's lots of coloured icicles,  just waiting to be  to be seen.

There’s a Christmas tree where fairies sit and shelter from the rain,
They hang their heads and watch below as  rain runs down the drain.

The fairies look inside the shops  "What a warm and cosy scene.
Look there's other fairies  on the shelves,  so happy and so clean."

Two little girls come to their tree: "See – there’s fairies on this tree –
They look so sad out in this rain,  but, they’re as pretty as can be."

One little girl looked up and said  "I’m as certain as can be,
That the lovely fairy at the top looked down and smiled at me."

A happy Christmas children all.  Enjoy your shopping sprees,
But don’t forget to wave your hands to the fairies on the trees.

Hi Josie. Enjoyed. Tidy little rhyme, as ever. Bit disappointed in the last verse (it was hidden and I had to scroll down) as I thought the fairy might be about to do something magical. (besides smile) - You know I have a weakness for narrative verse.

Really liked 'stained with gold' very much.

Minor crit, and it's probably just me, the rhymes for verse 3 and 4 seem there because they rhyme, not because they add to the overall piece.

All the best,

Phil

(Bit early for Christmas? I've got a school poem ready, but I'm waitng on Dec 1st.)
