2 MONTHS 13 DAYS Men have often been abused for playing with a woman’s heart. More than often, society experts have given a standard cliché and termed ‘men’ as emotionless and ruthless, when it concerns love. 2 MONTHS 13 DAYS is the love story of Rahul and Priya. A chance meeting between the two (introduced by a common friend) make them to exchange their business cards and part with a formal – ‘It was nice meeting you’. In Rahul’s wildest dream, he never thought that one day he would fall in love with Priya. As destined, they needed each other to excel in their respective fields. They exchange few SMS and one fine day decides to discuss how they could form a team to work together. It was a lovely meeting and they gelled perfectly well. In the world, where everybody is born selfish, they joined hands for their own benefits. Love was nowhere in sight or in their thinking. One fine day, Rahul receives Priya’s SMS to meet ‘Just Like That’. The SMS disturbed him a great deal and all the while he was travelling to make the rendezvous, Rahul was wondering what if Priya refuses to work as a team? Nevertheless, they meet over a cup of coffee. The rendezvous was beautiful and they ended up spending one and a half beautiful hours. A couple of days later, they moved together for their first assignment. It was just beautiful and telepathically, they were more alike than dissimilar. After their first assignment together, Rahul felt a little attraction towards Priya. Reasons? Priya had class, creativity, good sense of humour, a lovely company to be with and above all, she matched Rahul’s psyche. Rahul started to find excuses to be with her. Priya also liked Rahul’s company and reciprocated his advances with same zeal and enthusiasm. They realized that they enjoyed each other’s company and started moving out together even when there was no work. During the next assignment, they opened up a bit and even shared a little about their respective lives. Needless to say, the attraction was mutual and by their third assignment, in a span of one month, they were more than a team. Rahul presented Priya with a beautiful rose in their next meeting, which she happily accepted and was touched by his love’s gesture. Rahul felt an unusual completeness whenever he was with Priya. Priya discloses to Rahul that she is very fond to treasure flowers. Rahul is very happy to hear that and feels she has given a hint of being in love with him. One day, Rahul gets the news that Priya is very sick. He insists to meet her but surprisingly, she asks him, “Why?” Priya’s question haunted him to a great deal as Rahul was thinking why she is behaving in such a fashion? To confront her, Rahul lands at her place with fruits and coconut water. Priya is touched to see Rahul’s concern for her. She asks him point blank if he was in love with her? Rahul nods in affirmative and asks Priya, “Are you in love with someone else Priya? If yes, I would be happy to back out and just keep professional relationship with you. Please tell me honestly.” Priya discloses, “There is no one in my life Rahul. However, you have to understand one thing about me, I can or never will hurt my parents feelings for anyone on this earth.” Rahul promises never to hurt her feelings and is relieved to know that he has to win Priya at all cost with his love. After a while, he walks back home happy and relieved and even thanks God for giving him Priya in his lonely life. After this incident, first thing in the morning, Rahul used to call Priya, so he could hear her sweet voice. Night also ended in the same fashion for Rahul, even though they were meeting each other almost daily irrespective of their busy schedules. Each day, their proximity became closer and closer. Two months have elapsed since their common friend Catherine introduced Rahul and Priya to each other. Rahul was a very caring and loving guy, so to celebrate two months of togetherness, he orders for a lovely chocolate cake (Priya’s favourite flavour). They arrive for their rendezvous and Rahul surprises Priya with a red rose and chocolate cake. Priya was very happy, looking cute and blooming like a beautiful flower full of fragrance. They spent the whole day together watching movies, eating their lovely cake and having coffee and later a lovely dinner. They seemed to be the perfect happy loving couple in this world. As they say, being in love is the most wonderful feeling to celebrate and needs no occasion as such. Rahul and Priya were in seventh heaven. Unlike other loving couples, they never had any fight as such during these two months thirteen days. One day, Rahul asks Priya if she would accompany him to another town to attend his friend’s daughter’s marriage? It was the month of February and Valentine’s Day was approaching within fortnight’s time. Both wanted to spend the special day of lovers together, so Priya agrees to take leave from her hectic schedule to accompany Rahul without any second thought. Rahul became very happy and books their tickets for the respective journey. They have a wonderful journey and stay at Rahul’s friend’s place. Rahul, who belonged to the respective town, introduces Priya as his fiancée to his small circle of friends. Everybody is happy to meet Priya. Priya too is happy to meet Rahul’s friends and doesn’t object about being introduced as his fiancée. However, after a couple of days, for reasons unknown, Priya’s aloofness surprised Rahul as the Valentine’s Day was approaching near. Rahul presumes Priya must be feeling a bit homesick being away from home. Rahul keeps up his best to keep Priya happy because he loved her so much. The marriage of Rahul’s friend’s daughter ended on 13th February. The next day, an excited Rahul went to surprise Priya instead he gets the shock of his life with the cold behaviour of hers. Waking Priya from her sleep, Rahul gifts her a beautiful crystal heart kissing her softly to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Priya was still half asleep and was looking very cute. Priya’s look made Rahul to forget her cold behaviour. The two spent the Valentine’s Day bidding farewell to Rahul’s friends. In the evening, Rahul buys a lovely card. However, when he gives it to Priya, she surprises him saying very emotionless, “It’s a waste!” It shatters Rahul but still he takes the statement in a lighter vain. Rahul has been deprieve of love from his early childhood since he is an orphan. In spite of his traumatic childhood, Rahul loves to love and cares a lot about Priya. From the said destination, they arrive at Priya’s home, which happens to be on the way to their respective destination. Priya’s family consisting of her parents and grandmother were just amazing. Rahul has never met such a wonderful set of people, who were very simple and real in every sense. They welcome the couple with great love. In the short time of their stay, Rahul and Priya’s father went onto develop a beautiful rapport among themselves. In fact, even Priya doesn’t know of the topic of conversation the two men had. After spending few hours, they are on their way back home. Back in town, both Rahul and Priya become busy with their respective work. As usual Rahul used to call Priya first thing in the morning and end the day chatting with her. For two long days they couldn’t meet each other because of heavy workload and Rahul misses Priya like hell. On the third day, they meet to attend a work related party. Rahul hugged her tightly and says, “I missed you sweetie!” Priya gives her a cold smile. The next day, that is, two months thirteenth day of being together, they decide to meet in the evening and have a nice dinner together. Rahul was travelling towards his destination and browsing his messages to make space for new messages. Much to his surprise, he finds a message that was sent by Priya to her friend Kishan about him in the out box. Rahul doesn’t know how to react after reading the message. He trusted her so much and never in his wildest dream thought that Priya could do such a thing. However, he keeps himself calm and poise to meet Priya. They meet at their favourite coffee joint to have coffee. The chilly weather surely was taking a toll on both of them, so they head for the restaurant. They seemed so much in love and enjoying each other’s company. However, deep down in Rahul’s mind, a duel was taking place while they were having dinner. After the dinner, Rahul confronts Priya, “Do you really love me Priya?” Much to his expectation and surprise, she just nods her head and looks down. Rahul asks her why? Priya discloses, “At this stage of my life, I really cannot commit Rahul. I like you but I really don’t love you. I have to achieve a lot Rahul in my career and I am too young for marriage. I am really sorry.” Priya’s confession takes a toll on Rahul. Shattered, sad and heartbroken, he asks her, “Why did you lied in the first place then? Why didn’t you say that you just wanted a professional relationship with me? Why, why Priya did you misguide me and didn’t say a thing when I loved you? All the time, you reciprocated my love and we both had good time together. The message too was left by you in my out box with a purpose, isn’t it?” Priya was well prepared for all the questions Rahul had for her. She gave her explanation, which reflected that she was just using Rahul to climb the stairs of success in her career. Rahul realized his mistake but he loved her so much that instead of fighting like all lovers do, he just tries to reason her out. Two lives have been shattered. No, it would be better to say just one life was shattered because of this professional gain game played by Priya. In spite of his heartbreak, Rahul promises Priya that they would continue their professional relationship because he wanted to see her reach to the top. Rahul had huge hopes from Priya and was considering to tie the knot soon but… Rahul wanted to hate her but just couldn’t because he had loved her for 2 months 13 days and have shared such beautiful moments with her. While he was returning home, Rahul gets a message from Priya asking him if he was ok? He replies and says not to worry, as he will live in his solitude. The idea of losing someone you have loved before is not an easy situation to live in. It makes both the man and the woman very much insecure. It was perhaps Priya’s insecurity, which made her to convince Rahul that she still cared for him. They exchange couple of messages on their cell phone and it made Rahul realized that it was his orphan background that made Priya to back off from their relationship. Rahul wanted to cry but just couldn’t. He sat with his diary and wrote his epitaph. Later, he sat drinking and never realized when he went to sleep. When he woke up in the morning, he couldn’t concentrate reading newspapers and so made another drink and after consuming it, went again to sleep. When he woke up in the evening, he felt a sense of incompleteness. Sad, gloomy and heartbroken, Rahul called his friend Catherine and tells her everything. He wanted to cry yet he couldn’t as he became speechless after a while. Catherine is shocked to know about their break up and tries her best to console Rahul. Catherine and Rahul have been best of friends since couple of years. They have been always there for each other and that is why their friendship is so special. Catherine suggests Rahul to write the whole episode to pour his heart out and submit the story in a women’s magazine, so that readers will know that in this cruel world, all men are not heartless and emotionless. Rahul had to fight with himself to write his sad love story. Eventually, he manages to complete it and submits it in a women’s magazine. Much to his surprise, his story becomes a huge hit with the readers. Rahul gets lots of congratulatory messages and letters for his beautiful story. He is happy and calls his best friend Catherine. He says, “You know Catherine, life is beautiful when it pains the most. Because you learn the best lessons when it hurts the most. If you smile in such times, with your radiance you will overcome the unexpected. I learnt this fact from my love story and I am glad it has made me a better human being now. All the credit goes to you my friend for asking me to write it down. While the story has become a hit with readers, I have been so much relieved from the pain that I was holding in my heart after the heartbreak. Thanks Cathy for being always there for me. You are indeed a gem friend!” Catherine just smiles hearing Rahul back on track once again. Johnny D 28th November 2006
