I’m sorry, just couldn’t stay away from them. I started thinking about a continuation of my ‘Confessions’ even before finishing it. So here I am, posting my first attempt.

Any feedback very much appreciated.

‘Daddy, is Mummy going to die?’ the little girl’s eyes piled with tears as she raised a worried face from the seated man’s lap. Her arms squeezed the imprisoned leg tighter.

‘Don’t be silly, Vicky. Of course she won’t. ‘ the man’s hand lingered a warm stroke on her silky hair.

‘But why is she gone in there with that lady? Why can’t we go with her?’ she incredulously persisted. .

‘Come here.’ the man’s hands slid underneath her armpits and lifted her up on his knees. ‘Now, remember what I told you about the little baby Mummy’s carrying in her tummy?’ he asked, securely holding his arms around her.

‘Yes?’ she impatiently eyed him..

‘Well, the lady in there will help Mummy to get the baby out. Aren’t you looking forward to meet your little brother?’ he smiled, gently brushing away few rebel strands from her temples.

‘Uh-huh.’ her face lightened up. ‘But, Daddy, who put the baby in there?’

‘Hmmm... ‘ he hesitantly tighten his lips for a second, ‘Daddy did.’

‘How?’ her eyes widened eagerly, gasping for more details.

‘Well, ‘ he only wished it would be that easy to explain the act of human  reproduction to a four year old, ‘remember when you helped Mummy plant those seeds into the pots she keeps in the garden?’

‘Yes…what about them, Daddy?’

‘Ok, oh well, Daddy planted a little seed into Mummy’s tummy. And the seed has grown into a little baby. Just like the seeds you planted grew into flowers. And now the baby’s too big for Mummy’s tummy and he needs to get out.

The size of Vicky’s eyes was at its peak by now.

‘When did you plant the seed, Daddy? I didn’t see it.’

‘Hum…one night, when you were sleeping, all tucked up in your little bed, honey.  And Mummy and Daddy were…errmm….cuddled up in theirs. That’s why you missed it.’ he hoped the answer would satisfy her curiosity. ‘Now, when auntie Tina gets here, you’ll go back home with her, yes?’

‘Can I stay here with you and Mummy?’ Vicky’s face scowled. ‘I want to see the baby!’

‘I’m sorry, honey, it’s already late, you should’ve been long in bed by now. You can see the baby next time you’ll come and visit, but tonight you’ll have to go with auntie Tina, ok?’

‘Well, if I have to…’ Vicky pushed forward a frustrated bottom lip.

‘I’m afraid you do.’

‘Ok.’ she sighed resigned.

‘Daddy?’ a moment later Vicky’s finger was persistently curling up a thin strand of her own hair.

‘Yes, honey.’

‘Did I grow of a seed as well?’

‘Yes, you did.’

‘A little one?’ she cuddled up to his chest.

‘Very tiny one. And look at you now, how big you’ve grown.’ he hugged her tighter, kissing the top of her head.

‘Hehehe…yes.’ she giggled, satisfied with her own developing performance. ‘Daddy?’

‘Yes, honey.’

‘Can you plant more seeds into Mummy’s tummy so we can get more babies, please?’

‘Hum….’ the smile deepened on the man’s face, ‘yes, probably, one day, but for now we’ll be busy looking after this one.’

‘Hello, you two.’ a feminine voice interrupted the father and daughter dialogue.

‘Auntie Tina!’ Vicky leapt of her Daddy’s lap and rushed down the corridor. The young woman coming towards them spread her arms open just in time to receive the incoming load.

‘Hello, sweetheart.’ she cuddled the little girl, bending more than 90° to administer a loud kiss on her cheek.

‘Mummy’s in there getting the baby out.’ Vicky volunteered the news, pointing a finger to one of the doors lined up along the corridor.

‘Is she?’ Tina’s face put on a big surprise. ‘Wow, isn’t that great?’

‘Yes. I’m getting a little brother Daddy said.’ she smiled happily. ‘We can’t see him tonight though.’ a trace of disappointment shadowed her excitement for a second. ‘We have to wait until tomorrow.’

‘Well, tomorrow’s not that far, you know.’

‘Well, I suppose.’ Vicky wrinkled her nose in unenthusiastic acceptance.

‘How is she?’ Tina rested a friendly hand on the man’s shoulder when she stopped in front of him.

‘Hi, Tina. She’s with the nurse having some routine tests done at the moment, but she’s fine.’

‘Oh ok, so we can’t see her.’

‘Not at the moment I’m afraid.’

‘Ok. Well, I’m taking Vicky home to Craig, and then I’ll be right back.’

‘Come on, little bunny, let’s go home.’ she turned to Vicky. ‘Craig’s got a new story book and he needs someone to read it to. I think he enjoys the tales himself just as much actually.’ Tina laughed.

Aided by her Daddy, Vicky climbed back on his lap.

‘I love you, Daddy.’ she spoiled herself, tightly squeezing her arms around his neck, pressing her cheek against his.

‘I love you too, honey.’ he cuddled her tenderly. ‘Be good.’

‘I will.’ she promised.

‘Daddy?’ she called him just before disappearing, her hand clasping Tina’s, through the open door.

‘Yes, honey.’

‘Thanks for planting me as well into Mummy’s tummy.’ she shouted from the bottom of her heart …and lungs.

Smiles and warmth filled the air. .

A welcome return!

Reading this was like the return of old friends. Once again, you set the scene so well and this scene was full of warmth and contentment. So much so that I don't think you need the last line... "smiles and warmth filled the air".

I smiled at Paul's awkwardness at telling Vicky about childbirth!

Is there going to be any more?

Thank you, Nina, for your kind review. I’m planning to carry on with the sequel of the Confessions. At the moment, I’m not quite sure if it’s gonna work, I thought I’d give it a try though.

I was looking for some of your work to review and cme upon this. I really like it. It is very realistic, and fun. I thought the dad did a very good job for spur of the moment stuff.

My granddaughter, Natasha, aged 3, goes around telling everyone there is a baby in her mummy's tummy - and my daughter has to explain in a way not to undermine her daughter that this baby is going to take several years to arrive. But apparently many of Natasha's friends are having new brothers and sisters and she doesn't want to be left out.

I remember before my last daughter was born, 33 years ago now, we got a children's book showing in cartoon form a naked man and woman making a baby. My son said, to anyone and everyone, "My mummy does that with me too."
