Not very funny I fear - just a fairly light hearted attempt to highlight the two-faced nature of Western democracy. That and to point out that no-one should mourn a man with a history such as his.
For once, no mention of royalty. (Wasters)
Augusto Pinochet – May he rot in hell.
Many despots and retired maniacs are today mourning the death of Augusto Pinachet, one time dictator of Chile. Margaret Thatcher, hailed by all Daily Mail readers as ‘Britain’s saviour,’ but by the rest of us as that evil witch from hell who cared not a jot for anyone on an income lower than her own, has today paid her own tribute to the ex-South American dictator.
“In a continent awash with corruption and strife, this man stood head and shoulders over other leaders of his time,” she stated. “He was an example of democratic leadership at its best.”
When asked about the 3000 executions performed by his unelected, military government on grounds of political belief she relied: “Here was a man ahead of his time. He was on the frontline of the war on global communism. He had our support as we all knew a communist South America would have been a disaster for Great Britain. And anyway, he provided cheap coal imports that enabled us to smash those Northern mining bastards.”
Downing Street was unavailable for comment, although an unnamed source has said that Mr. Blair was a little disappointed at the news as he was looking for advice on how to ‘disappear’ twenty-odd thousand political dissidents linked to the war on terrorism.
Meanwhile, Elton John and Dale Winton are winding up a bidding war on the internet auction site e-bay for Pinochet's old uniforms. (Proceeds to the Thatcher Memorial Home for Retired Dictators)

Blimey,Phil when you get the bit between your teeth there is no stopping you. The venom in this was palpable, a really well put together piece, cogent and angry; a difficult trick to pull off. You even ended with a bit of wry humour. A really great piece and I'll be careful not to get on your bad side in future. cheers J |

I'd really like to see some more posts from you. I know you're a busy lad with teaching and all the reviews but I'm sure 3C could manage on their own for a bit J |

I like the thought of a Thatcher Memorial Home for Retired Dictators. Personally, I don't want Pinochet in hell. I want him to visit all the people he 'disappeared' first, to account to them for his actions and get an inkling of the misery he caused them. Enjoyed this, Phil. |

Great Phil. Loved the vitriol. But "rot in Hell" is far too good for him. Last para was a good craic. Just pissed me off how long they were taking to do anything about him. Excellent stuff. Cheers. |

Yes, I think it's all been said Phil. Your sense of genuine personal repulsion shines through nicely, whilst still maintaining the all important humour levels. Good stuff. Rgds Givistum |

Great piece of writing and very funny as well as angry. It said in the paper that he had the last rites of the church - so maybe if you believe in hell, he might have avoided it, if he was sincerely sorry. Doesn't seem fair some how. |

| Pinochet was under house arrest in a mansion in the village I grew up in. Used to cycle past his house not realising what a monster he was. Funny you should mention Elton John as he lived here as well for a bit... maybe Elton grew fond of his uniforms after having tea with him. |

Funny old world. If I was ever arrested I'd be thrown in some rat infested pit, or at least Bolton nick. Pinochet gets to stay in a mansion (and have tea with Elton - actually, I could do without that) Phil. |
