Through the glass

Another unfinished piece Smile

A fading palm print,
where he touched the window pane
Distracting him from what is beyond
For a whole four seconds.

Thick lashes
heavy with melancholy
Framing eyes
filled with wonder, with
longing
for the glee they behold.

Skipping and
Jumping
and running
Kicking balls about.
Giggles and shouting
and squeals
Somersaults and
Cartwheels.

Beside him
Are pieces of paper
with crayon scribbles of houses, trees and aeroplanes.
All the same.

He hears them laugh again
And for a moment
He forgets
Eyes widening with curiosity
An eager smile appearing.

But then he sees the glass again.
And the smile fades,
just like the palm print.

I like this a lot. It flowed well with a good pulse. It had me feeling sorry for the little lad, so job done there. For me: effective.

All the best, Phil.

Hey, a poem I can understand and relate to, you cheered me up no end. I usually find poetry a bit scary but I reall liked this. I could picture it happening.
Nice little piece

I liked this too -- more so after the second reading. I like poems that you have to work at just a little to understand, and this one was just right. Good imagery, too -- the glass between the boy and the fun, and the single handprint on it.

Really liked this Esra - the 2nd stanza didn't work as well as the rest for me and I think you've spelt somersault wrong (but don;t quote me on that). Nice idea well executed.
