MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN'S 'PARKING FIRST'
By Witzl

I'm just so proud, and who else can I brag about this to?

MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN’S ‘PARKING FIRST’

Ms Mary Witzl, a seasoned driver of some four months, successfully parked her car in the public car park in the middle of Moffat’s High Street this morning at 9:48 A.M., just before the arrival of the 10:00 bus to Glasgow. Ms Witzl, who was seeing off an old friend from university, was particularly pleased with her efforts, as she managed to park her car between two cars, both of which were correctly parked.

Bystanders were amazed to note that both Ms Witzl and her passenger were able to exit the car through their respective doors, with absolutely no risk of a dent to Ms Witzl’s car or the other two vehicles. Several witnesses were present, though regrettably none were able to take a photograph.

‘I’m feeling very pleased and proud,’ Ms Witzl said. ‘We’d been worried because there didn’t seem to be any spaces free. Someone was right on my tail and all of a sudden I spotted a space. Heretofore, I’d have had to pass it by and drive around the car park half a dozen times, but I just flicked on my left indicator and parked – all in one go!  I’ve been doing a lot of parallel parking recently and my family have been quite concerned because I haven’t made much progress. But after this, I’m not going to give up. In fact, I might even try parallel parking between two cars. Maybe even uphill.’

Neither Ms Witzl’s driving instructor nor her husband could be reached for comment.

Here we go. I wondered how long it would take before someone pushed the boundaries of reality just that little bit too far.

Only joking Witzl. Clever little article this one, I liked it. Sincerest congratulations on a very comical post, and a milestone in your parking career.

Best Regards

Didn't you learn to drive in the States? We had to parallel park to pass the driving test in North Dakota - and I am quite proud as well when I do it here. Lots of people can't or don't even try.

10 points to Ms Mary Witzl! Liked this very much - funny and very impressive if I may say so :)

Despite the fact that I am a native Californian, I have only just learned to drive. I am ridiculously proud of this. But what I am most amazed over is the fact that my examiner never cottoned on to the fact that I cannot park. Somehow, I managed to slip that one right past him. And get this: on the day of my test, I managed to back right around a corner perfectly for the first time, too. It was as if God was guiding my hands.

Parallel parking was my mother's own particular Waterloo, and it is mine as well. Straight-forward parking has also been tough, but after that between-two-cars victory, the sky is the limit.

When I actually manage to parallel park between two cars uphill, expect to read about it in the Scotsman.

Nicely done Ms Witzl. I like. A tip; it's all about knowing where the wheels are. Teacher yourself to run over cane toads, for the environment. It works here. - regards, wattle

Really enjoyed this Witzl. Great idea, not just local newspaper news, but the minutiae of our own lives - although this item would probably make the front page of some local newspapers. Well written. The champagne must have been flowing. Have you tried doing the same thing pissed?

Well done! I'm still learning, and I aspire to one day achieve what you have achieved. I also aspire to being able to change gears properly, but all in good time I guess!

I enjoyed this.

Best wishes,

Brilliant, but this category is about NOT news, isn't it. An American who couldn't drive, now that is news :P

Bravo! This was a great little article. I aspire to someday be able to conquer my fear of driving. I've got my license but I'm terrified to drive! Managed to somehow pass the test on the second go. The first time didn't go so well; when the tester has to reach over and physically wrench the wheel to avoid hitting another car it is a bad omen for your chances of passing. When she has to do so before we even leave the parking lot your goose is pretty much cooked.
