Class (A working title)

Very primitive I know, but I honestly dreamed this poem almost in it's entirety. Perhaps I was semi-conscious to be fair.

Thought I better explain this poem a little bit, which for me detracts from the poem and in a way is critical of the way the poem portrays itself.

I felt the Dog represented the working class, the Man middle class, the cat upper class and the Bird classless, rather like an artist with freedom to live and express.

Bit deep. Sorry.

The Dog barked
The Man laughed
The Cat looked up
The Bird flew by

The Dog howled
The Man ignored it
The Cat watched
The Bird was gone

The Dog died
The Man cried
The Cat slept
The Bird flew by

I think this shows something quite meaningful about human nature compared to that of animals, especially in the last stanza with the man crying.

In the first stanza you have a typo- lauged/laughed.

Reading it over a few more times, the role of the bird and the cat make more sense. The cat is only concerned with the bird as prey.

A lot of varied responses could be made here. Fantastic that you dreamed it up.

Excellent

Interesting piece. I'm not sure I like it (sorry - horses for courses) but I recognise a certain quality to it. It's a little like an adult nursery rhyme. (I never liked nursery rhymes)

I'm not sure you needed the explanation...there are a few ways in which one could interpret this...not everyone will get your interpretation but then that's true whatever you write and you're correct in saying that the detailed intro detracts from the piece - especially as it is simple in style.

You might be able to work on the examples you choose here to make the meaning a little more obvious but overall I quite liked this, it certainly engaged my attention.
