Beautiful Facade
By roxyhope
19 December 2006
Long ago I built this wall
To hide from everyone (even myself)
I created this person
You all seem to know
Being exactly what you want,
exactly what you  need

Hidden by the shadows
Of a secret life
My true self slowly fades away
Leaving only this beautiful facade

The years tick on
And yet here I stay
Pretending
    and pretending
        and pretending

I am what I am
Thats something you all can see
Im exactly what you wanted--
    yet Im nothing at all

Im forever on the outside
Simply looking in...

Only a beautiful facade
Made to bring you happiness--
    which is always bitter-sweet

Have now read all your offerings and find myself, if not a fan, then certainly a new regular viewer.

This for me is the most moving.

Short is sweet, less is more etc. etc.

Due to personal circumstances, I found this a very interesting and engaging piece. I wonder, is this a piece about simple shyness and retirement, or something much deeper?

I can relate to this piece alot. I tried to write the same sort of thing once, but it wasn't as good as this, so it was nice reading something along the lines of what my own thougths were.

Best wishes,

E:)

Interesting - I liked this. I thought you could have made more of the metaphor in this, as it is, it's longer than it needs to be - just my opinion though. Thought the ending was good.

Ms Roxy, There is something quite soothing about your work, yet the content comes across as experience painfully learned. To me, you are the girl next door (the nice one who everyone loves; she is so loveable, beautiful and friendly, but when it comes to partnering up she is just too grand to belong to us). --- (Oh I almost forget – I like your poem) ------ All the best for the Christmas break, stay beautiful. ---- Regards, wattle

This is perhaps the most down to earth and realistic expression of self that I have seen. It is what everyone does, everyone puts on a face that is "Acceptable" to satisfy the Illusion of society.

Very well written :)
