Since when did lettice cost £7.75
By sheppard

A family outing to remember

We sat at a table with Coke and Ice,

The setting was tranquel,

The company nice,

Some ordered Chicken, some ordered Fish,

But when mum's arrived, we all said "What's this?"

A bowl full of Lettice 4 crutons no less,

No apple or walnuts what's caused this distress

She ordered salad but just COS was in view

At £7.75 just what could we do,

The waitress said sorry and scuttled away

The bill arrived, time to pay.

So order your starters, mains and deserts

Its paying £7.75 that really hurts,

A lettice is cheep, 4 crutons just pence

To call it a salad just makes no sence!

Many a time have I bemoaned the price of food in restuarants - how can they justify charging so much for something so little or so simple?

A good choice for a poem - as Maj said, very witty and I liked many of the word choices. In particular the introduction sets the tone perfectly :) The title is ok, but perhaps could be snappier (the price of lettuce?)

There are quite a few spelling errors, but I am sure you will pick that up on a re-draft.

The overall tone works for the piece; it is light, breezy and gets straight down to it. I would suggest you look at the rythmn in a few of the lines - some need a few extra syllables and others a few less (1, 10 and 14 I thought - counting 2 and 3 as one line)

All in all a well thought out piece that deserves a pat on the back.
how much is lettice

Hi Ostara,
Thanks for you comments, and i'm sorry about the spelling errors, spelling & I don't seem to get on too well, and the prob is I write the piece and just want to get in down, I shopuld really just have it so I can read it till I have put it right, but once its written I tend to go to the next one, please can you explain the last paragraph, and I will try to put it right.
Thanks again :grin
Do you know if its poss to write articles in word and transfere it over? That way i would get the spelling right! :)

:p Hi, Sheppard!
Yes, you can 'Cut & Paste' from Word

Use Control+A then Control + C to 'lift' from your Word Doc.
Then use Control + V to Paste it into your GreatWriting box.

A useful tool (free if you follow the links from the Home Page) is called Rough Draft and is particularly useful for drama scripts, if you're interested in that sort of thing.... :grin
