Consider this; To ban the bomb
To stop poverty, to feed the hungry
Very christian, very right.
And for the sake of a few pounds
We can feed a family for a week
And blow to the heavens, all the weapons,
But only if we fight.
Save the whale and save the children
Is proper and true
We can hold our head up high
Say we helped the helpless with money
And hurt someone else in the process.
Bless the needy, give them shelter
For it's that time of year
It's hypocritical.
"What happened in July?" they say
Give, give and give. There's more to life than December.
The difference between giving and taking is nothing.
The difference between the 25th December and 15th July is everything.
For to give is to take away, for good or for bad.
To take away is to give, for bad or for good.
Help! A dog is for life...

Interesting idea but it came across as preachy to me in places which can be counterproductive. I think it got away from you at the end as well, you lose the rhythm when reading it aloud. I'm not sure the last line works as it is - needs a bit of a shoe in. A subtler approach to this might make for a stronger piece.
