Snowdrop
By Talisker
04 January 2007

Look at the gentle snowdrop,
symbol of eternal hope.
Her chaste and bowing head atop,
thin green blades that strive and grope
for light.
How can this little gem aspire,
to push aside a layer of snow,
and glimpse the sun's low burning fire,
absorbing from that feeble glow,
the strength to fight?

lovely language here. but is the title fitting, being that the poem focuses on the blades of grass?
How Beautiful

What lovely words Oli. I love your picture too. Your poetry is so different to mine. I also have written a poem about the snowdrops, and I will put it on this website later. It is so interesting how different people can express themselves beautifully. I don't think the poem focuses on blades of grass. You have spoken of the think blades of the leaves, which are just what they are, and so different to most leaves of flowers.

OK, I did not realize that a Snowdrop is a flower. I had a feeling I was being foolish, but didn't know how. It all makes sense now, and my apologies.

Beautiful words, so delicately written.

They are lovely flowers.

There's not much I can add to this really, Oli - except to say it is a beautiful piece, put across as only you can!

Glad to see you back on here again. I noticed you had been away for a while - hope everything's OK with you. :)
Thank you all!

Don't worry Toad, simple misinterpretation -easily done.

Good to be putting pen to paper again! Hopefully there will be better to come.

Happy New Year to you all!

This is so beautiful -- especially 'the sun's low burning fire' and the good message.

Why are my snowdrops not coming up yet? I was out in my garden this morning looking for them. I've got plenty of dandelions, zillions of dead leaves, and a couple of cyclamen. But the snowdrops -- which I planted last year in several places -- have not shown their tiny heads.

Ah well, at least I got to read your poem . . .
