Caged and blindly content, with

glistening adornments. Thin, half

smiles from a man that doesn’t look

at you, weakened by each word he

slips in your ear. Ingesting his power

as he suffocates silently the life that

you used to live, choking back thoughts,

mixed in with salt water that used

to be your precious tears.

I would open the door of that

cage and free you from all you

endure, but you won’t come out.

Frightened and frail, you timidly

cling to the sides as he feeds you

his poison, slowly stripping you

down to a dry, brittle carcass, until

your bones have turned to dust.

Now this I can connect with. I found this a pretty powerful piece, particularly the last five lines. They don't just smack of desperation, they're brutal. Good piece.

Nasty, nasty men! A bad lot we are and no mistake!

This poem is raw and powerful, but who knows why people stay with partners who are no good for them. "Lurve" is a funny old thing!

Like it a lot!

There's some powerful imagery in this which was, for me, spoilt by the odd line breaks which destroyed the sense in places when reading it aloud...
