Forgotten

Sometimes the minority is forgotten

The Lord Jesus spoke our tongue,
and we have followed the Cross of Christ
for thousands of years,
mostly living in peace with our
Muslim Brothers.

But today we live in fear,
our Churches burnt
our Priest put to the sword,
our women forced to wear the veil,
to wear the Cross of Jesus
is to invite certain death.

Yet our Brothers in Christ
wring their hands
and cry pious tears of guilt
for the suffering of our tormentors
and we are forgotten and
the hatred of our persecutors
knows no bounds.

Cast aside and vilified for
following the Lord Jesus
our suffering is ignored and our
pain and loss is great,
soon we will be driven from
Our Ancient Lands
for we are the betrayed
the forgotten
we are the Assyrians of Babylon.

For sure Iraqi Christians have been largely forgotten in the recent debacle.

I'm no great historian, but does the Assyrian nationality actually equate with the modern Christians of the region, given that Assyria ceased to exist as a independent nation over 600 years BC?

Also, although ancient Assyrians spoke a Semitic dialect, it was probably very different from the Hebrew spoken by Christ.

A very worthy reminder though of a forgotten minority.

As above. A very worthy reminder.

Also a pointer to the cruelty that organised religion engenders and receives. Each one has a lot to answer for.

Phil.
