Sweet -n- Sour Candy

Sweet - n - Sour Candy

I am a pirate in training,
a liar and thief.
I can  manipulate you
into giving me anything I want.
I work the system,
bending it to my will,
knowing all the answers
before the question.
Giving you the response
that you want to hear
My innocent smile protects my evil grin,
you see just want you want to see;
Virginal...
Untainted...
Pure...
I am the actor of actors,
playing the part, any part, every part.
Cue the waterfall of tears;
watch your reaction,
laughing silently
at your stupidity.
I live without conscience,
never dine on regret,
walk away without looking back
while you try to figure out
if I was real or an apparition.
The only evidence I leave behind
is headless chaos.

Something a little raw about this, but I suppose that suits the subject. Paints both men and women in an unflattering light.

Can't work out whether or not I like this yet. I think that perhaps it is neither one thing or the other. Not brutal enough, or on the other hand, not 'flowery' enough. I think I'd have liked a more brutal version better. Hope this makes sense as I'm just trying to thrash out my reaction.

an interesting, original poem with effective timing.

I think that there should be a little more insight into why the speaker acts as she does. "I can manipulate you into giving me anything I want" is the only clue, and it's vague.

Ouch! I think this would do well in the 'My side of the story' thread... First person POV, and a nasty main character. Good one. The line "My innocent smile protects my evil grin" was brilliant.

How funny, I was just discussing such 'players' with a friend last night.
