A curse upon the scrooges
By Fledermaus
20 January 2007
Oh big man in your tower
Splendid ivory structure
Enjoy your golden shower
Before there is a rupture

Bloodsucker, foul demon
Greedy man, gold-addict
Great disgrace, shameless beast

There are three great, noble ways
One is birth-right
Another skill
The greatest labour

But of these, you owe neither
No noble blood, nor godly gift
No raw, blistered hands either
Dishonour, theft are your shift

Widowmaker, vulture
Without honour, graceless
Godless bandit, great scrooge
Rulemaker, manager

You have many vices
Lack of honour
You have no grace
The worst is greed

A man, a human resource
A woman, for you a toy
It is you who took this course
What became of you, oh boy?

You intrigrate, cause struggle
Divide honorable men
And fair, good women alike
Just to feed your money-lust

You earn your silver and gold
Over other people's back
Remember the lies you told
When you sit upon your stack

Backstabber, arse-kisser
Suit-and-tie, Lazy cow
Cold vermin, parasite
Conscienceless, sharp tongue

You are lower than the rats
Who nibble on human shite
One cannot slay your honour
For you've lost it long ago

Lots to like in this. I wonder if you had anyone in particular in mind when you wrote this. I know I could think of a fair few.

I'm not going to crit the poetry (as if I could anyway) but just say that this came across as a powerful, raw and effective piece.

Liked very much.

Phil.

Hi Phil, thanks for your comment.
I didn't have anyone in particular in mind, but I hear the complaint over and over, from teachers, doctors, nurses and so on... Since it's all about competition and making money, the bureaucrats have taken over and it's all about numbers rather than people...

Definitely raw and angry. Overall powerful piece for me although as with the other poem of yours I've just read I thought this could have been condensed - but maybe that's just me today!

Thanks Elli. I think its my poems today (or this week) rather than you. Somehow they grow and grow and it's always a shame to throw something away once you find something better :grin
