Today I had a brief image of Andrea Robinson, infant school, early seventies. First Love
Until the day She sneezed across the classroom And a lump of sputum slid Across the parquet floor Like a translucent slug, I loved her.

Liked - especially the translucent slug line - I was found devouring a slug as a toddler...unfortunately not a tranlsucent one! Not sure it;s a memory I wanted to be reminded of...but enjoyed the piece anyway Elli | Written by rilLie (327 comments posted) 21st January 2007 | ack!! Thanks for all your comments. Phil. | Hi Phil Written by jean.day (2257 comments posted) 27th January 2007 | Great fun. I am looking forward to reading all of these. I do think that true love would excuse the odd bit of slug. | Written by brook_rivers (484 comments posted) 31st January 2007 | brilliant first poem! Look forward to the rest!

Such an image -- like a translucent slug -- but that is exactly what certain phlegm looks like, particularly when one is well into a cold and all the mucous membranes are sloughing off .... and now I know that I will never see another light brown slug again without thinking of poor wee Andrea. I once fell out of love with a boy when I saw him pick something off his face and pop it into his mouth. And the debris in question was nowhere near his lips. |
