Be sure we won't forget you
By maipenrai
22 January 2007
A  report by centerpoint in london some years ago found that a high percentage of people living on the street were ex Service men and women, i doubt little as changed over the years.

ANGRY????YES

Born into poverty in sixty two
died in poverty in zero six
in between
four kids and a life of poverty.

that's life boys and girls.

fought the wars
drank the booze
had the joy
of begging on the street.

the guy you see on the street
the unwashed one with the bottle,
more likely then not a hero of
some forgotten war.

Thank you lads, you did your country proud,
be sure we won't forget you.

Hmmm, interesting topic I like that you decided to write about something that seems to mean something to you.

It conjures up some interesting ideas, although I feel the first verse doesn't really fit in with the mood (what is the mood - angry, sad, forgotten, regretful...)

Something to think about, as I've just applied to join the airforce!

There was something on the radio about this today - so yes, it's probably still a similar situation to the one reported by Centrepoint.

Got your message across well, but I'm not sure ths holds together too well f as a poem. It started prety stylishly - sort of Bryan Adams (In the summer of '62 etc) but didn't maintain it. Balthazar picked up something similar.

Still liked it - for its raw emotion alone.

Phil.

For some reason the title, ANGRY???YES
struck me even more than the poem did. I don't think the mood of the poem quite fit the title. The peom is more sad than angry, perhaps you should add in more of the indignity of the situation.

Liked the last line

Over all, a very good, emotional peom that touches on something we don't think about every day.
Excellent job.
