Athena's soap
By Fledermaus

Appearantly there is some fuss about some neo-paganists who want to worship in Athens. Here's the BBC article.

Above the apartment blocks
Old and ancient hills arise
It's high upon these rocks
That Athena got her prize

At the Parthenon there's strife
People gather at the place
Want to keep something alife
Something lost in time and space

Assembly of white dressed men
And women wearing flowers
Chanting at the Goddess' den
But at Greece's holy towers

Bearded monks, a fierce debate
Shocked by this competition
They march towards Athens' gate
It is their holy mission

To wipe this pagan disease
From blessed Byzantine ground
So that their holy Greece
Can again be safe and sound

Assembly of black dressed nuns
Marches to Acropolis
Make your choice, oh Hellas' sons
The church or this divine Miss?

And meanwhile, the barbarians wonder what to think of all this...

A good resonse. You ought to do a piece for 'Not news' too.

Sceptic though I am, even I can see there's something very special about the Acropolis, especially at night. I think that the sight of it in the middle of a modern city could inspire all sorts of things. I don't know if you've been there, but it rises up pretty suddenly from the city floor and is lit up in yellow and golds against the midnight blue med. night sky. Below, the Placa (sp?) is in near darkness, and all around the city rushes on.

Thanks Phil and Milz.
It's a strange place indeed, all these ancient ruins high above that city. When I first saw Athens I was realy shocked. I expected something like Rome, but it looked like some crammed city full of boring concrete appartment blocks and billboards, and in the middle of it, that hill which (in spite of all the tourists) seemed like an oasis of calm and beauty.
